Ms. Batten earned her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. During her time there, she served as a Legal Fellow at the university's Housing Rights Clinic, gaining experience in advocating for tenants' rights and addressing housing issues .
Prior to her legal education, Mackenzie pursued a degree in Political Science at Principia College. She participated in a study abroad program to Nepal and India, where she engaged with diverse cultures and focused on storytelling projects centered on women's lives. This experience reflects her longstanding commitment to social justice and advocacy for underrepresented communities
